Reflections by Pattaya Harbor
Today's walk took me around Pattaya harbor, where I encountered the eerie remains of 'The ghost of Pattaya'—an abandoned construction site that was once a grand vision but now stands silent after being closed to the public years ago. It’s strange how a building intended to rise tall enough to block the view of a revered sea captain’s statue ended up causing such controversy and ultimately, the project's collapse. On Buddhist Hill, the statue of the famous captain still gazes solemnly out to sea, a sacred monument that seems to wait patiently for the horizon to clear. It’s unsettling to think that his view remains obstructed, and the uncertainty over who should take responsibility for this unfinished structure adds to the melancholy. Walking this 7.26 km stretch reminded me how many stories Thailand holds beneath its surface, stories of ambition, conflict, and reverence all intertwined. I tracked the walk on CityCamino.com and even earned some Camino Dinero along the way. It felt good to be moving, reflecting on these layers of history quietly unfolding before me.
